Was the first grunge band to sign to a major label (A&M Records, in 1988), though the band did not achieve commercial success until they popularized "grunge" in the early 1990s with Seattle contemporaries Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.
Along with bassist Joe Rockman and drummer Tom Stephen, he formed The Jeff Healey Band. Stevie Ray Vaughan discovered Jeff, which led to an appearance with Patrick Swayze in the movie Road House. Around this time Arista records signed The Jeff Healey Band and the first album, released 1988, featured the hit single "Angel Eyes" and the song "Hideaway," which was nominated for the Best Instrumental Grammy Award. The album See The Light went Gold in the US.
